Dear children & parents,
I am looking forward to seeing you on Monday, and am sure you will be looking forward to seeing each other too. I have been thinking about you all.
Parents - Monday morning could be busy and my priority will be settling the children. I hope to speak to as many of you as possible, but please drop me an e-mail if there is anything important you feel I should know in preparation for next week which may take more time to discuss.
Best wishes,
Mrs Leftley
Dear families
We will be open for students on Monday 13 September. Classrooms are fully operational. The hall has sustained some structural damage and will be out of use. Some debris has slipped from the cliff, although very little has come over our back fence. As a precautionary measure we have brought in temporary fencing to cordon off the junior playing field, room 19 and the hall. This is as recommended by the geotechnical engineers. The after-school care programme will continue as usual from Monday, it will be located in the multi-purpose room.
The staff were at school on Friday. We spent time together preparing for the children's return on Monday. We reviewed our Earthquake, and Evacuation procedures and teachers will practice these with their classes. We read and discussed information about responding to traumatic incidences, in preparation for the children's return to school.
Here is one important message we were given: "Students will be looking to adults to provide a sense of safety and security. Adults can help students by also returning a sense of routine and normalcy to their lives. Students who experience high levels of social support from parents, friends and teachers have been found to cope well."
It is a good idea for children to have their own water bottle at school each day.
On Monday we will have coffee and tea available in the staffroom at 9.00am for all parents who would like to call in for a chat with one another after dropping their children to classrooms and saying goodbye for the day.
If you have any concerns or questions please do not hesitate to talk to us on Monday. I will be in the staffroom at 9.00am.
Kind regards
Kim Alexander
Principal
