Week 9

What an amazing week Room 13 has had. We have looked after one another when we have been feeling a little unsettled and tired, and Mrs Leftley is very proud of us. Thank you parents, for being so positive and supportive, in what could have been a more difficult week.

In Art we created pukeko collages.

Here we are hard at work on them. Collages use lots of different materials. Can you spot what we have used?

In Maths, we investigated 3D shapes. We looked at them closely to see how many faces they had and if we could spot any 2D shapes in them. We thought that a cuboid could be called a rectangular prism and a cone could be called a circular based pyramid. How many 3D shapes can you find in your home?

In writing this week we are preparing for the show and tell part of our topic. We have been writing reports on the kakapo. We have remembered so many facts about our favourite endangered bird. We hope the same thing that happened to the moa does not happen to the kakapo.
Moa

Once there was a giant bird,
Bigger than you or me.
He had a long neck
and long, strong legs
and he loved roaming free.

Then people came
and hunted him
for his feathers and his meat.
His bones were carved into jewellery
Or weapons he could not beat.

These giant birds
they tried to run.
But their numbers were quite small
and very soon, one by one,
The hunters killed them all.

Now the Moa roams no more.
Now he is extinct.
You can see him in books
and museum shows.
But I’d rather he was here, I think.
